Sudden Ecological Collapse Predicted

A vulnerability study of more than 30,000 species of marine and terrestrial plants and animals predicts sudden collapses in populations levels for almost all species in the study as the climate warms. Researchers used existing data for the hottest temperatures each species is known to tolerate, and compared that to high-emissions climate predictions, concluding that Earth is headed toward catastrophic ecosystem collapse within the next two to three decades unless greenhouse gas emissions are reduced. In tropical oceans, where coral bleaching is occurring, this collapse has already begun. Learn more.
